The International Award is an exciting self-development scheme available to young people aged 14-25 from all over the world and from all backgrounds. It is a voluntary, non-competitive programme of practical, cultural and adventurous activities, designed to equip them with life skills that make a difference to themselves, their communities and the world in general. The Award offers a challenge and encourages young people to undertake exciting, constructive, challenging and enjoyable activities in their free time. More than 5 million young people from over 100 countries have been motivated to undertake a wide variety of activities under the Award scheme.
The programme has 3 levels of Award: Bronze (ages 14+), Silver (ages 15+) and Gold (ages 16+)
There are 4 sections to each of the Awards (5 for the Gold Award):
- Service (helping other people in the local community. Activities such as Fire & Police Services are set up with our local stations)
- Expeditions (training for, planning and completing a journey on foot or horseback, by boat or cycle)
- Skills (covering almost any hobby, skill or interest. Certain SCC Specialisations & Proficiencies can qualify cadets in this section)
- Physical Recreation (Sailing, Pulling, Swimming, other sports, Fitness and Dance)
- Residential Project (GOLD AWARD ONLY. A purposeful enterprise involving 5 days away from home, with people that are not the participant's usual companions) §
