The joint effort by Bromley & Sutton Sea Cadets was rewared on Sunday 22nd March 2009 when they won the London Area Drill Competition. Bromley's Sea Cadets took on and beat the best the other forty seven sea cadet units in the London Area had to offer at the weekend to win the prestigious Armed Guard Drill competition held at Tooting TA centre.
Leading Cadet Jennifer Clarke, who will be eighteen later this year, said "I've paraded in other events before, but this was was my first time in a Guard competition and is it was my last chance, I'm really pleased we won." Bromley provided seven of the thirteen cadets that formed up the Guard, including sixteen year old Guard Commander Able Cadet Tom Kennard who tied with two much more senior cadets to win the "Best Guard Commander" award.

Sub Lieutenant Chris Hartwell, Officer in Charge of Bromley Sea Cadets said "I am delighted the cadets' hard work and determination has been rewarded. Some of these cadets are only just thirteen and none have competed at this level before. The older cadets helped the younger ones and together they really gelled as a team. They beat older and more experienced teams and surprised a lot of people. I wasn't surprised, though. This result follows successes in 5-a-side, first aid, shooting, sailing and seamanship and I know Bromley Sea and Marine Cadets are among the best in London."
